The competition consisted of five different disciplines. The aggregate scores of two particular events producing the eventual Welsh champion.

The events were divided between shooters who used modern reproduction pistols or revolvers, and those who used originals. Originals being pistols or revolvers usually manufactured before the start of the 20th century. Competitors could compete in both, provided they used the appropriate gun.
