10 members and 2 volunteers attended the Penally range this week for a great day’s shooting.
Rifles seen on the firing point included enough vintage Mauser k98’s to equip a Platoon, a Boer War Era “Long Lee”, SMLE’s, Winchester pattern 1917, Swedish Model 1896, 3 band muzzle loading P1853 and 7.62mm target rifles. The Club were joined by some “celebrity” guest shooters in the form of the Commanding Officer of the Cornwall & Devon Army Cadet Force and several of his senior officers who tried their hand at vintage rifle shooting ( HTSC won!)
The weather was excellent for the day and the company even better and everyone had a chance to shoot from the 200 metre firing line.
This range has good facilities and is “close to home” so it is hoped to make this a regular monthly shoot. As the range cost is fixed, the cost to members will drop as the numbers attending increase. The committee are aware of the difficulties of attending a mid week shoot and every effort is being made to arrange a Saturday shoot.
If you don’t already shoot full bore rifle and are interested in trying your hand, feel free to turn up as there are enough enthusiastic shooters with enough rifles to let you try. Volunteers for sentry and butts duty are particularly welcome and we won’t charge you (honest!) Penally range has good facilities and is close enough to enjoy a full days shoot without leaving before the sun rises! Watch this space and the club notice board for further dates and remember everyone is welcome.
