It’s been an eventful year for our Club with the eagerly awaited opening of the new 50m range and the competitions that has already been used, which will hopefully be enjoyed for years to come. Also good to see a new group of air shooters and new members joining for FAC shooting too. Some of the FAC members can now be seen on a Sunday mornings proudly displaying their new Range Conducting Officers badges – they qualfied earlier this year; thanks to Jan Trussler for making the arrangements. With our Club now registered to shoot at Penally, thanks to Tom Davies organising the first trip, those RCO qualifications will be put to good use as we hope to visit regularly for long range shooting.
A group of ‘hopefuls’ met at the Club in late November for a days tuition with the incomparable Gwyn Roberts putting them through their paces. All agreed that it was extremely useful. Look out for some better scores in gallery / action shooting competitions next year (assuming they put what they learned into practice!). Many thanks to Jill & Sutton for setting that up for the Club. With a bit of luck a further day’s tuition will be arranged so keep an eye on the website and the Club noticeboard for details…
Finally, as has become a tradition, the competition year was rounded off by the annual John Munt (make it up as you go along!) Xmas Special Practical Shoot. This was held on Sunday 12th Dec in the freezing cold, but the running about and adopting bizarre poses seemed to keep everyone just about warm enough to shoot. Disciplines were full bore under-lever and shotgun against the clock. Barrie Learmont triumphed once again to come out on top of a keenly fought contest, with Richard James not far behind overall and taking an easy victory in the ‘B’ category.
As soon as they are available we’ll get next year’s competition dates posted online so check back for updates.
Big thanks go out to all the members who have helped improve our facilities this year, and also those in organising trips, special events and regular competitions without whom we wouldn’t have such diverse and interesting sport.
