David Griffiths's blog
Hello all, long time no post...
I understand that people have become a bit frustrated at the recent problems with the website. I'm really sorry about this. I embarked on a major revision and have been so busy that I had been unable to find the time to finish it up - leaving it temporarily in a bit of a state. I hope that things are better now and once you've all updated your bookmarks and favourites to the right place - i.e. the old address of haverfordwestshootingclub.org.uk, you'll be able to make use of it once again.
Now all I need to do is find some time for a bit of shooting!
That's what you have to have once you get into this shooting malarkey! But no-one thought to mention that when I was signing up.
The trouble is, that once you get your first few guns, then suddenly browsing web sites that sell you shooting stuff change from a 'one day when I get my FAC'-experience into a 'pass the credit card, this stuff won't hang around for long...' one! And having placed your order, you wait. And wait.
And wait some more...
Well, despite my best efforts at lengthy consideration, weighing up the pro's and con's of all the differing advice I had received, I dragged Barrie out for a trip around the local RFDs!
Mr Harris has just very kindly delivered my FAC; so now the real fun begins!
Of course, I have a huge, almost uncontrollable, urge to rush out and buy the first gun I can find along with some ammunition; so that come next Sunday morning, instead of calling upon the kind patience of my recent mentors, I can start training in earnest so I can topple Barrie's crown. Muahahahahaha!!!
Well, just in time for the upcoming 1500 competition, anyone who enjoys a good video nasty might like to check out this epic...

I used some aversion therapy to avoid getting too wound up prior to shooting - by taking some video footage of the competition which I'll be editing and uploading soon (nothing to do with the fact that the Oscars are on today, honest!)
Oh dear, how am I going to get out of this one? I've been very kindly offered the loan of a gun for the competition on Sunday. Problem? Well, it will be my first competition and I haven't exactly been practising for it, have I?! I mean, if I actually owned a rifle, I would, but for now...
They say you learn something new every day, which I suppose is true enough. But it's not everyday that you start something completely new from scratch and at my age (no comment!) it's been a very long time since I 'took up' a new interest without having a single clue about any of the details. I'd always fancied a go at shooting, but never really had the get up and go to do anything about it. Then completely by chance I met Barrie and was offered the opportunity to give it a try. What I hadn't bargained for was the unbelieveable levels of complexity that the sport entails.
