Barry Shoot 12th (Click on picture to enlarge)

This is some of the gang on the bus eagerly awaiting the arrival at the Barry Shooting Center.  Which

Some of the gang on the bus

took a little bit longer than usual as we had hired a mini bus (which was kindly organised by Graham), that was governed to do 62mph maximum. One good thing was we couldn't get booked for speeding.  All good fun!!!

Barry Shooting Center Shop The firing points The tunnel

We had a wonderful day at the center as usual and the gang soon got into the shooting when we arrived. The two boys at Barry (Neil and Bob) were their usual charming selves and Bob had prepared a magnificent curry which I must say "went down very well", together with the pastries, tea and coffee.  (Thank you Both).  We arrived back in Pembrokeshire about 6.30pm tired, but having had a very enjoyable day.

.................................................

We have a day trip going to Barry Shooting Center on Monday the 12th.  We will be meeting in the Club car park (where you can leave your car until we return) in the morning at 9am for the first pick up.  The second pick up will be at the bottom of the car park behind the Queens in Narbeth (you can also leave your car in this car park if you wish).  Please remember to bring all your relevant documents.  There is plenty of hot and cold drinks there but you might like to bring a snack with you incase there isn't any food.  Now is your chance to give the 'big stuff' you have in your cabinets an outing !!!  They have a 200m range in an old railway tunnel, its really good fun and a very enjoyable day out.  If you would like to come please contact the Secretary as soon as possible.

In the Autumn Action Weekend at Bisley Marek Pawlik did extremely well with his LBR and his rifle.  In 25m Precision LBR he came 1st with 270 + 3X.  Timed and Precision 1 GRCF B class he came 1st with 298 + 11X.  Timed and Precision  1 LBR A class he came 1st with 294 + 7X and with the 25m Precision GRCF he came 8th with 287 + 7X.   Well done Marek some really good scores.  It only proves that you do need to practice to improve your shooting ability.  So, we are hoping to resurrect the Tuesday evenings with Rifles and LBR (just like the old days), using the turning targets so if anyone would like to join in on a Tuesday evening about 7pm we would be pleased to see you.

For the full results of the Autumn Action Weekend at Bisley go to our links page for Bisley.

Tuesday evening the 30th at Narbeth Dragon Rifle Club was a little disappointing due to a low turnout.  However, Mike managed to achieve a 50.4 out of a maxium score of 50.5 on his second shoot, well done to Mike, nevertheless we lost.   But everybody had an enjoyable evening.  The scores were:   Harry 76, Peter 90.2, John 94.1 and Mike 94.3.  Mike being top shooter for our side and he won the snap shoot with 43.  Narbeth scores:  Richard 97.2. Josey, Roger and Julie all with 96.2.

There is one more away shoot for this season and that will be at Wrexhams Welsh Gallery Rifle Championships on the 17th & 18th November.  If anyone would like to go please pick up an application form from the clubhouse.

Sunday 21st we left at the crack of dawn on a fine brisk autumnal morning heading for Aberystwyth Rifle & Pistol Club Open Championships.  We arrive at the club around 9.40am and had a good days shooting.  Charles had 1st place in the Kuchenreuter Original with a 93, very good Chas. When we left the club to head home Sutton was looking like being 1st in the Lucky Shoot, but we didn't wait for the final score as there was two squads to shoot.  Charles thoroughly enjoyed his three bacon and egg baps!!! and Jilly enjoyed the chilli with French bread.  Full score you will find on our link to Aberystwyth Rifle & Pistol Club.

September News 07

The .22 competition which was held on the 30th was a very good match.  We had quite a few new members taking part and they all enjoyed the challenge.  Its all about taking part and enjoying the atmosphere, it also helps to improve your shooting ability.

.....................................................

The practical shoot which was held on the 16th was a roaring success, as usual we didn't finish until it had gone 1pm.  It was great to have a visit from Harry (a member of the Thursday night air section guys), he came as a spectator.  Once again we would like to thank John and Mike for organizing and setting up the range, and all the other members who helped to clear the range after the shoot.  We would also like to thank the people who lent their guns and ammunition to those who were without the necessary equipment.

August News 07

English Muzzle Loading Championship at Wedgnock - 26th August.

In August there is usually a bit of  a lull with the shooting fraternity, children off school and people taking there annual holidays.  But, it didn't deter John Munt from attending the English Muzzle Loading Championships.

He scored a 96 in the Kuchenreuter replica (which he thought was a 97) and on count back, ended up in 3rd place.  Nevertheless, that was a very good qualifying score for the World Championships to be held in Australia in 2008.

In the Colt pistol John scored a 91 slightly behind his usual standard.  He also won a prize for the highest placed Welshman ahead of Bill James and Mike Thomas.

British Western Championship 3rd, 4th & 5th

The British Western Shooting Society (BWSS) took over the Club for their Championship competition on the 3rd, 4th and 5th.  They had a very enjoyable stay at the Club and we held our Club Western Shoot on the Sunday 5th to incorporate the Western Shooters. Our members who attended said that they had a fantastic day and it was really good fun.  The only problem was!! - some members didn't leave until gone 4pm and the Kitchen was closed because the cook wasn't in attendance.

July News 07

Man v Man 22nd

Firstly we would like to thank Gareth Jones for organizing the Man v Man competition on Sunday 22nd July. The course of fire was brilliant and we would like to thank everybody who helped to set up and dismantle the course.  We would also like to give a big thank you to the members who loaned their weapons and provided their own ammunition.

For the members who turned up to compete and those who only came to watch, we feel sure you enjoyed yourselves immensely, especially with a light lunch of Hot Dogs!!!

The competition was wide open this year due to the absence of Vaughan.  In the final it was Tom Davies and Barrie Learmont, Tom being the overall winner and an enjoyable day was had by all.

Pedersoli Championships 7/8 July 07

Only Charles Rone and John Munt went to the Pedersoli Championships at Wedgnock, but nevertheless,  John came away winning the Gold Medal for the Colt Pistol (original revolver).  Well done John,

May 2007 News Update.

Phoenix meeting Bisley 26th/28th

What a difference a week can make!!

Regardless of the horrendous conditions, quite a few of our 'roughty tuffty' members travelled to Bisley for the Phoenix . 'The weather was more suitable for fishing than shooting', with torrential rain and strong winds making the shooting very difficult.

The scores were fair by our club members.  Marek shot well in spite of the nerves (this being his first time at Bisley).  He had 3rd (Bronze place) in the Timed and Precision with his LBR and a 4th place in the 25m Precision LBR.  John had first place with his score after he shot on the 50m range, but there were many more entrants to compete.  John held the 1st place taking Gold position in the 50m Precision MLP.  He also had a 4th in the 25m Precision MLP.  Chas Rone had a 4th in the Classic Percussion Pistol.  Well done to all of our members who entered the Phoenix .

In spite of the weather there seemed to be an increased populous of shooters and trade stands.  But, it was sad not to see Bob Peace in attendance.

The Pistolest 13th/14

The recent Pistolfest Competition at Wedgnock was somewhat of a disaster.  Due to several of our members being indisposed with other arrangements and the weather so atrocious, we only had two entrants (John Munt and Charles Rone).

Nevertheless, Charles Rone took third place with his Kuchenreuter Original single shot.  The conditions were bad, very poor visibility due to heavy rain, but, in spite of the difficult conditions he achieved a very good score of 94 with 6 tens. (Well done, Chas).

They left the range before the presentations in order to get home.  Quite by accident, due to the call of nature, they stumbled upon a very nice restaurant in Monmouth which was the icing on the cake.  This must be added to the list of places eat.

Pembrokeshire Muzzle Loading Pistol Championships. (29/04/07)

“NO COMPETITION TOO HARD – NO DISTANCE TOO FAR”, so reads the motto of the Haverfordwest Target Shooting Club who hosted the 2007 Pembrokeshire Muzzle Loading Pistol Championships.   Now in its third year, one has to say it still struggles to attract competitors from across the United Kingdom, BUT those who do make the effort all agree that they have a wonderful weekend.

Next year it is likely that the Welsh Muzzle Loaders Championship for pistols will run concurrently with the Pembrokeshire Championship event around the end of March 2008

Haverfordwest Target Shooting Club has always been a highly competitive and motivated club.  It has   produced Michael Jay – Wales’s only Commonwealth Games Pistol GOLD Medal winner (plus Silver and Bronze medals), and in 1994 a new British Centre Fire record shot on the range during the Home Countries Centre Fire Championship.  Members have shot competitively all over the world – South Africa, Australia, USA and most of Europe.

One notable absence at our meeting was Bob Everitt, who unfortunately has had complications following a hip replacement operation.  All the competitors signed a get well card to be sent to Bob and we hope Bob that you will be back on the shooting circuit in the near future.

KUCHENREUTER REPLICA  saw a tie for first place between Bill James and Mike Thomas on 95 with Bill having the better group size.

KUCHENREUTER ORIGINAL also ended with a tie between Charles Rone and  John Munt, with Chas getting the nod with four tens!!

Bill James was a clear winner in the MARIETTE with 94 from David Spittles on 93.

In the COLT David Spittles took first place with a good score of 94 and John Munt on 92 in second place.

Not many entered the COMMINAZO competition which was open to replica and original, but Peter Revell scorched the opposition with a score of 93.

In the free pistol Bill James upped his Kuchenreuter score by one point to take first place with a 96 leaving John Taylor in second place with 94.

The Pembrokeshire Championship (aggregate of Kuchenreuter and Mariette) was well won by Bill James on 189 points leaving Mike Thomas as runner up on 183 points.

The Club would like to thank David Spittles for all his help and thanks to Joyce Smith for her scoring tutoring of Sutton Tanner, and, a big thank you to Jill Tanner for single handedly running the catering – Oh I can smell those bacon rolls now!!!

And lastly, if your clubs motto is “OH ITS TOO HARD,  OH ITS TOO FAR  - SOD IT” then you’re missing out on some really terrific shooting days.

April 2007 News Update

The 14/15 April 07 was OTF at Wedgnock

Only two of our members went to the Overseas Team Fund competition (Mike and Chas), they     travelled up and back on Sunday the15th April 07 and shot five matches which they both said    was far too much to do in one day.  The weather wasn't very good and the scores were not exceptional (see MLAGB for full results).
